Union County Libertarian Party: An introduction

As Libertarians, we support freedom in both economic and personal matters. We advocate smaller government, one that is limited to the powers specified in the constitution, including the protection of individuals from coercion, fraud and violence. We support individual responsibility, lower and fewer taxes, less government spending, free market solutions and civil liberties. We demand nothing less than observance of the limits of government which are spelled out in the laws of the land, the constitutions of the United States and of North Carolina.

The Union County Libertarian Party holds to the following core beliefs regarding government at all levels, federal, state and local:

  • Most of what our representatives do today is unconstitutional and destructive.
  • In general, government has grown frighteningly large and intrusive.
  • Government no longer serves only its legitimate purpose of protection from others, but also the purposes of others.
  • Neither the Democratic nor the Republican Parties will ever make the necessary changes to avoid the coming economic collapse both parties are responsible for, nor will either repeal the countless violations of our civil liberties both parties are also responsible for.

Therefore, the Union County Libertarian Party focuses on local outreach and activism in order to inform our neighbors in Union County about the only realistic possibility for changing the conclusions stated above: the election of Libertarians. This is true because the Libertarian Party is the only party whose candidates would abide by the oaths representatives take upon entering office: to uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
